21st Century Skills

It is very difficult for me to find words to explain exactly what this site did to me as an educator. This is a site that I would definitely bookmark and keep as a resource tool. This site stresses to me the importance of linking education, community, politicians and businesses together in order to achieve one common goal. This was evident to me when I happened to look at the board members and realized that they were major, well known business cooperation that I knew. Examples of this were "Dell, Sesame Street, Apple, etc." These big cooperation would not have aligned themselves with this project if they did not believe in its cause.
This site also demonstrated to me the importance for children to have the skill necessary for the 21st Century. That means "prepare them" for the real world!!, equipping them with the skills necessary in order to cope in the world that they live. The site was full with useful information, not only set for educators but the public as well. I must have spent about 4 hours going through this site. I found that it was packed with information, resources, videos, and articles. I loved the video, these clips that was chosen were able to make a tremendous impact right away.
What I did notice and should be commended on was the fact that they used minorities in their pictures. Every Link, had a picture of diverse children. That in itself sends a message. In addition to this as I scrolled through the site I clicked on the link that had the State Initiative. To my knowledge there are suppose to be 50 States. Since that is the case it is rather disappointing that only 10 States are on board with this amazing venture. I am hoping by the end of the year other States will follow suite.
As an educator, I will now pledge fully that I will do my part to embrace, equipped and help my fellow students encompass the skills needed for the 21st Century Skills. Even if that means that I would have to make changes in my ways in executing my lessons.
