Cognitivism in Practice

    I really like how you used a podcast within your blog. It was really nice to take a break from reading and sit back and listen.
    I really appreciated the connection you made regarding using technology as tool and how students who learn with technology are given a mind tool. This tool, as you stated, enables students to become critical thinkers. As we both know, developing our student critical thinking skills can be a challenge. I too feel that technology can assist students in developing these skills.

    Just like last week, I am impressed that you used podcasting tools to present your thoughts. Like Eileen said before me, it was nice to just sit back and listen, giving my eyes a chance to take a break from looking at the computer screen.

    I agree with you completely that technology is a useful tool in developing critical thinking skills. With all the different programs and resources available, it would be foolish for a teacher not to take advantage of creating activities that challenge the mind and create vivid connections between concepts.

    Quite impressive with the use of a podcast for this week's assignment! You really are embracing and implementing technology in every aspect of your life. That being said, technology is extremely important in the classroom too. Students today thrive on the implementation of multimedia resources as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point features within each lesson. These media rich resources offer many productive outcomes for student learning and understanding. Students that receive information through multimedia tend to "retain more information than those who do not receive these types of resources" (Pitler, Hubbell, Kuhn, & Malenoski, 2007, p. 82). Pitler, Hubbell, Kuhn, & Malenoski (2007) also emphasize the importance of multimedia tools as they are "very effective since it helps students activate prior knowledge and develop a mental model to help them understand new information" (p. 82). Furthermore, the use of technology "integrates multiple senses throughout presentations which helps to improve learning" (Laureate Education Inc., 2008). Overall, technology provides many effective outcomes for our learners to not only engage them in the learning process, but to also retain the information for years to come.
